As a firm believer of giving back to my community, I am proud to lead a tutoring and mentoring initiative, 1000 Hearts for 1000 Minds, created by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, in partnership with the City of San Jose, Cities Association of Santa Clara County and 18 Non-Profit organizations. As the 1000 Hearts for 1000 Minds Associate, I work with members of the community and non-profit programs to streamline caring adults to serve as tutors and mentors into programs that offer support to public school students struggling in literacy, math or science.

In these hard economic times, where schools are strapped for resources, NOW is the perfect time to volunteer. 1000 Hearts for 1000 Minds strives to close the achievement gap for students by matching 1000 caring adult volunteers with 1000 public school students who are struggling academically. This is why volunteering is such a prized and valued service to the youth in the communities we serve. With a modest time commitment of 1 hour per week, for 10-12 weeks, you can truly change a life of a child.

1000 Hearts for 1000 Minds encourages volunteerism by creating a sign up process that is quick, easy and efficient for interested volunteers. In partnership with this amazing online organization, GoVoluntr, interested volunteers are able to access all the volunteer opportunities through the GoVoluntr iFrame on the 1000 Hearts for 1000 Minds website. Cool right?! Once a volunteer registers for a volunteer opportunity, the non-profit organization initates the contact to provide further information. This new process engaged many interested volunteers from all over the Valley. I encourage you to find your inner-volunteerism and visit the 1000 Hearts for 1000 Minds website where you can find ways to engage in this exciting initiative! Be a Heart!
